Eye Exam 101
An eye exam is a great way to get a better sense of your vision and overall health.
In some states our Optical Centers inside CVS Pharmacy® are made up of doctors of optometry who perform comprehensive eye exams and vision tests. Additionally, our optical staff and licensed opticians can assist you in finding the right frames and lenses. In certain states, eye exams are performed by independent doctors of optometry.
Here's what a comprehensive eye exam entails:
- Meet the optometrist
- Discuss any vision or eye concerns you may have. (It's okay if you don't have any eye concerns. Getting an annual eye exam is important to your health. It is also a good way to track changes in your eye health over time).
- Test time! Every Optical Center inside CVS Pharmacy® is equipped with state-of-the-art testing technology. Each eye exam includes the following tests:
- Glaucoma screening
- Vision test (also called Refraction)
- Eye health examination
- Retinal imaging
- The ultimate question, "do I need glasses," is answered. Prescriptions for eyeglasses and/or contact lenses are provided if necessary. Please note: Contact lens fittings are not included in the comprehensive eye exam.
How long does an exam take?
An optometrist can typically perform an eye exam in 30 minutes to an hour.
