There is a consultation fee of $39 that covers the cost of the pharmacist consultation. If the pharmacist determines that you are eligible to receive a prescription, the $39 consultation fee also covers the pharmacist writing the prescription for hormonal birth control. There may also be an additional cost for the medication the pharmacist prescribes.
Pharmacists can prescribe many different types of hormonal contraception, such as the pill, the transdermal patch and the vaginal ring. Upon your consultation, the pharmacist will determine if a combination product (one that contains estrogen and progestin) or a progestin-only product is best suited for you. The pharmacist will talk to you about your options and prescribe a medication that works best for you and your lifestyle.
No, a prior doctor's visit or prescription is not required to participate in this service. During your consultation, the pharmacist may determine a visit with your doctor is recommended based on your specific needs. It is, however, strongly recommended that you follow up with your doctor on a regular basis to ensure you are getting the appropriate preventative health screenings completed. Your pharmacist will discuss this with you during your consultation and will also provide you with a website link where you can find a local doctor if you do not currently have one.
No, in order for a CVS pharmacist to be able to write your prescription, you’ll need to be in person for your visit to fill out a short survey and have your blood pressure taken. This will help the pharmacist recommend the best birth control option for you.

At this time, scheduled appointments are not available for birth control consulations. However, you may walk in at any time during pharmacy hours.
Every patient who is 18 and older is eligible for a consultation with a CVS pharmacist. Only certain patients will be eligible to receive a prescription and that will be determined by the health screening form filled out by the patient.
When you enter the pharmacy, walk right up to the consultation window and let the pharmacist know you would like a birth control consultation. You will then take a seat in the waiting area to complete the screening and then have your blood pressure taken. Next, the pharmacist will discuss the results of your health screening with you and determine if you are eligible to receive birth control at the pharmacy. If so, the pharmacist will review different birth control options with you.
Pharmacists are able to prescribe oral, transdermal, vaginal or injectable hormonal contraception. Depending on the state you reside in, you may be able to receive Plan B over the counter. If you would like a prescription for Plan B, it is recommended you follow up with your doctor or a MinuteClinic® location close to you.

Patients must be 18 years or older. Some patients may not be eligible based on current or past health conditions. Some patients may need to consult with their primary care physician or other health care provider to obtain a prescription for birth control. $39 consultation fee covers the cost of the pharmacist consultation. If the pharmacist determines that the patient is eligible, the consultation fee also covers the cost of writing the prescription for hormonal contraception. There may also be an additional cost for the medication that the pharmacist prescribes.
