Splinter Removal

About this service

You might not think to call a practitioner for a splinter but it can become infected if not treated properly. If you see signs of redness, swelling or pus, or if you can’t remove the splinter completely, we can help. Our practitioners can clean it properly and determine if a tetanus booster is needed.

What to know before your visit

MinuteClinic® does not provide care for puncture wounds.

Patients with the following may be directed to another health care provider:

  • Splinters that are not visible on the skin surface
  • Abscesses

What to expect at your visit

  1. Sign in at the electronic kiosk to see a nurse practitioner or physician assistant.* No appointment necessary.
  2. Your practitioner will review your medical history, discuss your symptoms, conduct an examination and attempt to remove the splinter.
  3. Your practitioner may conduct needed testing. Please note that additional charges apply for these tests. Visit our Price List for these fees.
  4. At the end of your visit, your practitioner will provide you with a summary, a receipt and educational material.
  5. The summary of your visit can be sent to your primary care provider with your permission.
