Hair Loss

About this service

Alopecia is the medical term for hair loss. Some hair loss is normal. On average, people lose and regrow about 100 individual hairs each day. When hair loss is more than 100 individual hairs a day, normal growth is not fast enough to make up for loss. This is when hair begins to thin.

Hair loss happens to men and women, for many different reasons. Heredity is the most common reason for hair loss in men. Some other causes of hair loss may be:

  • Overuse or incorrect use of hair products like perms, dyes, gels, relaxers or sprays.
  • Hairstyles that pull on the hair, like ponytails and braids.
  • Shampooing, combing or brushing hair too much or too hard, or pulling it out.
  • Hormone changes, including use of birth control medicines
  • Poor nutrition including vitamin deficiencies, low protein or iron.
  • Medical conditions, medicines and some medical treatments

Hair loss can be upsetting. We can evaluate and help to explore the cause of your hair loss. We will provide a personalized treatment plan based on your evaluation.
