Light Coverage Concealer

Choosing a light coverage concealer can help your skin appear brighter, smoother and more even when used correctly. If you would like a concealer that offers more lightweight coverage to help camouflage blemishes, there are many shades and formulas to choose from, including some which may address specific skin concerns such as dark circles and acne.

What are the Best Light Coverage Concealer Brands?

What Is Light Coverage Concealer?

Concealer helps blur the appearance of imperfections and blemishes and brighten the under-eye area, and choosing the best lightweight concealer can help keep your makeup looking natural. Light coverage concealer can still let your skin underneath show through for a subtler effect compared to a full coverage concealer, which is usually totally opaque.

You may find concealers that are specifically formulated to target certain areas of your face, such as dark under-eye circles or pimples. These targeted products could contain active ingredients such as peptides and ceramides to help brighten the skin, such as in JOAH's under-eye concealers.

What Is the Best Light Coverage Concealer for Acne-Prone Skin?

When choosing the best light coverage concealer for acne, check the label. Concealers described as non-comedogenic, such as many of those from Neutrogena, may benefit acne-prone skin, as they’re less likely to block pores and lead to pimples and may contain active ingredients such as salicylic acid to help treat acne. Oil-free formulas, such as Maybelline concealers, may also prevent excess oil from clogging your skin. Always apply makeup with clean tools and fingers to help keep your skin clean and less irritated.

How to Put on Light Coverage Concealer

How you apply your concealer depends on what type you have. There are concealers that closely match your skin tone and color correction palettes, such as a correcting contour palette from NYX, that help counteract unwanted dark circles, hyperpigmentation or redness.

Start with a clean face and use your usual moisturizer to help makeup apply more smoothly. If you wear foundation, you may apply this before your concealer. Using a clean concealer brush or your ring finger, apply small amounts of your concealer on the inner corners of your eyes and any blemishes you wish to cover. Blend gently by tapping the concealer into your skin. If you’re using a color correction concealer, choose the color that corresponds with the imperfection. For example, green can help cancel out rosacea, and yellow can help disguise blue under eye circles. Finish with a setting powder.
