How to use a round brush

Using a round brush on your hair can be difficult to master. Many times, it gets tangled in your hair. The best advice to a round brush is to use the right size brush and to learn how to use it with a blow dryer. When you figure that out, you'll be a pro at using one!

What size round brush should I use?

This is determined based on the length of your hair. Brushes that are smaller in diameter (smaller around) are best for shorter hair while larger diameter brushes work well for longer hair. To style bangs, you want to choose a small brush.

How do I clean a round hairbrush?

It is important to clean your brush regularly to keep it sanitary. This can be done pretty easily.

1. Lift the hair away from the brush. You can use a rat tail comb or a pen. Then cut the lifted hair with scissors. Make sure you don't cut the bristles. Gently pull the hair off without pulling on the bristles.

2. Clean your brush with a mixture of water, baking soda, and shampoo. In a bowl, mix 1 cup of water, 1 teaspoon of shampoo, and 1 teaspoon of baking soda. Dip a toothbrush into the solution and then run it between the bristles.

3. Rinse the brush in cold water and let it dry on a towel for 2 hours.

4. For a wooden brush, use ½ cup of hot water and 5 drops of tea tree oil. Use a toothbrush to clean and then wipe clean with a cloth.

How to blow out hair with a round brush

Many women want a blown-out look but don't know how to do it at home. There are some things you can do to get that look on your own.

1. Let your hair (mostly) air dry. This will save your arm strength and give you time to get other things done while you wait.

2. Decide which round brush you want to use. (See above.)

3. Section your hair off. If you take your time, you can dry your hair more evenly and move on quicker. Clip sections out of the way that aren't being worked on. Always change the angles of the brush, too.

4. Change the heat settings. The heat should be lower around the hairline and can be hotter in the back.

5. Give it a blast of cool air. When a section is done, put your dryer on cool before taking the brush out.
