Lice Treatment Spray

Head lice are easy to catch but can feel challenging to get rid of, which is where lice treatment spray can help. A range of formulas is available that work to effectively kill lice and their eggs (nits). Sprays are usually safe for adults and children.

What are the Best Lice Treatment Spray Brands?

What Is Lice Treatment Spray?

Lice treatment spray is a type of topical treatment to kill head lice and eggs. As kids are often the ones needing head lice treatment, most sprays are designed to be gentle on their hair and scalps. They're formulated with active ingredients that effectively kill lice when there’s an active infestation. These ingredients are called pediculicides, and some also have an ovicidal effect, which means they can kill the eggs, too. Preventative sprays are also available that can help keep head lice at bay, such as Fairy Tales Rosemary Repel conditioning spray

Does Lice Treatment Spray Work?

When used correctly, head lice treatment spray can work well to kill head lice and nits. Several pediculicides have been proven to kill head lice. These include permethrin, the active ingredient in RID lice treatment, and natrum muriaticum, the active ingredient in Licefreee. Some of these are incapable of killing eggs and must be used repeatedly until no further infestation exists. To minimize the chance of head lice returning, it can be helpful to use preventative measures, such as head lice shampoo and bedding spray, in conjunction with lice treatment spray for hair.

How Long Does It Take Head Lice Treatment Spray to Work?

Head lice treatment spray that contains pediculicides can kill most head lice within 8 to12 hours. You may see active head lice moving around after that period, but they might move more slowly, which can indicate the treatment is working. Some head lice medicines require reapplication after a few days, particularly if new eggs have hatched. To avoid overtreating the affected hair, check the label for directions.

How to Use Lice Treatment Spray

The person receiving treatment may find it easier to put on clean clothes before treatment starts and wrap a towel around their shoulders to prevent any of the product from staining. Use the head lice product on hair as directed, and use a head lice removal comb to remove lice and nits from the hair. Once treatment is completed, check the package instructions to see if you can leave the hair wet or if it should be dried. Wash all clothing and bedding in hot water to kill any remaining lice, and dispose of rubber gloves or tissues used in treatment.
