UTI Pain-Relief Products

If you have a urinary tract infection, UTI pain-relief products may help ease discomfort. Most UTIs present with common symptoms, including painful urination and a frequent urge to urinate. Other symptoms may include blood in your urine, fever and fatigue. Before considering over-the-counter UTI pain-relief medication, see your doctor for a diagnosis and antibiotics if necessary.

What are the Best UTI Pain Relievers Brands?

How to Relieve UTI Pain

Once you’ve seen your doctor, UTI pain-relief pills may be used with their approval to minimize discomfort. The AZO brand has a variety of over-the-counter products for UTI pain relief and UTI prevention. Other brands from which to choose include URISTAT, Uricalm and the CVS Health brand.

Some of these products contain antibacterial and pain-relieving ingredients, such as methenamine and sodium salicylate. Phenazopyridine hydrochloride is another common component of some UTI pain-relief pills; this medication soothes the urinary tract to relieve burning and other painful symptoms associated with UTIs.

Does UTI Pain-Relief Medication Work?

When used under a doctor’s supervision, products to relieve UTI pain can be effective, but they don't cure any infection that may be present. Over-the-counter urinary products may reduce or eliminate the burning sensation during urination along with the urgent feeling. Preventative UTI products may help keep infection-causing bacteria at bay and some contain ingredients such as pumpkin seed extract and soy isoflavones to help reduce urinary frequency.

What to Do for UTI Pain Relief

You can use multiple strategies to get rid of or reduce the pain of a urinary tract infection. Treating the infection itself under a doctor’s care is the first step, as UTIs usually require prescription medication. In addition to using OTC urinary tract supplements and pain relievers, some things you can try for relief include:

  • Drinking plenty of water

  • Drinking cranberry juice

  • Taking a warm bath

  • Using a heating pad

If antibiotics and home care don’t relieve your UTI symptoms, return to your doctor or visit a CVS MinuteClinic. It’s crucial to seek help as soon as you suspect a urinary tract infection. With prompt attention from a medical professional, UTIs and the accompanying pain they cause can be successfully treated.
